‘Trio’ (1949) 30m, dir. Jules Dassin and Robert Aldrich. Landmark musical performances were a staple of early television, but unfortunately many of the early examples have been destroyed. This extremely rare film documents cellist Gregor Piatigorsky, violinist Jascha Heifetz, and pianist Artur Rubinstein, showcasing the techniques and personalities of three of the 20th century’s greatest musicians. Although the credits are missing, cellist Terry King, a friend of Piatigorsky, says the co-directors were Jules Dassin and Robert Aldrich.
